Introduction to Raspberry Pi: Features & Desktop Setup

What you need before starting
- Single Board Computer: Raspberry Pi board (e.g., Raspberry Pi 3 Model B)
- Storage: MicroSD card (with pre-installed Raspberry Pi OS / Raspbian)
- Display Output: HDMI Cable and External Monitor / TV
- Input Devices: USB Keyboard and USB Mouse
- Power Supply: 5V Micro USB power adapter
- Network Cable (Optional): RJ45 Ethernet cable

Overview of hardware ports
Examine the Raspberry Pi board layout: 4x USB 2.0 ports for peripherals, 1x Ethernet LAN port, a 3.5mm A/V audio jack, full-size HDMI video output port, Micro USB power input port, 40-pin GPIO header, and the microSD card slot located underneath the board.
Insert the MicroSD operating system card
Insert the microSD card containing pre-flashed Raspberry Pi OS (Raspbian) firmly into the card slot on the underside of the PCB.
Connect display and peripherals
Plug the HDMI cable from your monitor into the Raspberry Pi's HDMI port. Connect the USB keyboard and USB mouse into two of the available USB ports on the side of the board.
Connect power and boot system
Plug the 5V Micro USB power cable into the power input port. The red power LED will illuminate, and the green activity LED will blink as the operating system boots up onto the connected display monitor.
Explore the Raspberry Pi OS environment
Once booted into the desktop GUI, explore built-in applications including the Chromium Web Browser, Python programming environments (IDLE/Thonny), LibreOffice suite, Scratch, and System Tools.
