How to Install/Repair Stock Android ROM on Moto E (1st Gen XT1022)

What you need before starting
- Target Device: Moto E 1st Gen (e.g., Dual-SIM XT1022 model) with an unlocked bootloader and custom recovery (TWRP) pre-installed
- Host PC & Cable: Computer with a Micro-USB data/charging cable
- ROM File: Android 5.1 Lollipop Stock Firmware / Custom ROM .zip file for Moto E (~453 MB, sourced from XDA Developers)

Download the target ROM file
Go to the Moto E XDA Developers forum and download the Android 5.1 Lollipop ROM .zip file matching your variant (e.g., XT1022 Dual SIM).
Transfer the ROM file to internal storage
Connect the Moto E to your computer using a Micro-USB cable. Open the device folder in File Explorer (XT1022 -> Internal Storage) and copy the downloaded ROM .zip file onto the root of the internal storage.
Power off the smartphone
Disconnect the Micro-USB cable and turn off the device completely.
Boot into the Bootloader / Fastboot menu
Press and hold the Power button and Volume Down button simultaneously for 6 to 7 seconds, then release both buttons to enter the bootloader menu screen.
Launch TWRP Recovery
Use the Volume Down button to scroll through the menu options and highlight Recovery. Press the Volume Up button to select and boot into TWRP Recovery.
Flash the ROM file in TWRP
In the TWRP main menu, tap Install, browse to and select the transferred ROM .zip file, and Swipe to confirm Flash. Wait for the installation process to complete successfully.
Reboot the system and complete setup
Once flashing finishes, go to Reboot -> System (or swipe to reboot). Allow the phone to complete its initial boot into Android 5.1 Lollipop and follow the on-screen setup wizard to finalize the installation.
If something does not work
Device gets stuck in a boot loop: Re-enter TWRP Recovery, select Wipe, and perform a Factory Reset (Wipe Cache, Dalvik, and Data) before re-flashing the ROM.
Computer does not recognize the phone over USB: Verify that MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) is enabled in the phone's USB notification settings or transfer the ROM file onto a MicroSD card instead.
TWRP Recovery does not open: Ensure your phone's bootloader is unlocked and that TWRP recovery has been correctly flashed to the recovery partition via Fastboot prior to starting.
